After settling down at the hotel, pictures taken. Its Exploration time~!
In Malaysia, We have a lot roadside food stalls. Some can be seen on motorcycles, some have vans parked with tables and chairs for you to eat there, but somehow whenever I travel with my Dearest, we always get excited about trying new food stalls.
Just minutes away from our hotel, we saw our very first roadside stall.
Sitting on his motorcycle, he was selling Pancakes. You have several selection of toppings to choose from: Eggs, Banana, Chocolate, tuna, Pineapple, Corn, Cheese. For ours, it was a combo of Egg and Chocolate.
This is a typical Pancake from McDonalds
This is the Thai Version of Pancakes but with Egg in the making with Chocolate toppings
Texture and looks wise, it is similar to the ‘Roti’ we have in Malaysia. Our typical ‘Roti’ is done in many ways, but mostly the salty side. The Thai pancake leans a little more towards the sweet side. Have not tried the other stalls, but this uncle’s pancake was a little too greasy and soggy for me and my Dearest liking. The ones we had in Msia were more crisp, and usually served with Dhal / curry.
Some of the ingredients used in making the pancake
Nevertheless, we paid the good man 40Baht and on to our next finding. Another 5 – 7 minutes walk towards the Ao Nang Center, we discovered there were a row of stalls next to each other with tables and chairs. The Pancakes sold here were HALF the price we just paid…
Another lesson learned… “Be wary if a man sells you food by himself in a Tourist filled area, ” A quote I just made up.
Here are some of the stalls selling cheap foods to fill your tummy
This is where we chose to sat down and take a rest while savouring some of the local foods. Food prices range from 10Baht/meat sticks , to 40-60Baht for a single dish of fried noodles, salads etc.
Meat on sticks, Chicken Satay, Pineapple Fried Rice, Watermelon and Banana Smoothie
A sample of the food we ate that afternoon. First was Meat on sticks, Quite tasty but ordinary at the same time. Maybe just had an itchy mouth. The second was ordered by my Dearest, the Chicken Satay.
I have to mention that we have these Satays stalls opened in many parts of Malaysia, and comes in many choices of meat. Most commonly chicken and beef. Other more unique stores may offer Rabbit, Pork, and are usually served with sticky rice and peanut sauce.
This chicken satay stick we had was much more delicious~ The meat was succulent and juicy, not sure what they used for the marination. The satay sticks in Malaysia are a little bit drier, the meat not as thick as shown above, and sometimes they do get stuck on the stick. This is a Plus +1 for our Foodie Trip in Krabi.
Next up was the Pineapple Fried Rice. This dish was a little sweet, wasn’t sure if the lady added sugar in it or came from the pineapple. I have had pineapple fried rice before and usually was not this sweet. It was served together with Cashew Nuts, tomatoes, and not too sure if they were chicken bits in there. This dish was a so-so.
After consuming such ‘healthy food’, its time for our refreshing smoothie. I Know this is freshly made, as we could watch as the stall owner placed a generous amount of watermelon / banana and Ice as well to made this drink. Flavour was rich, it had the taste of the wonderful fruits without being overpowered by the iced. Not too sure if syrup was added, as I was partially eating and partially watching.
One of the dish we did miss out on trying was the papaya salad. It looked delicious when we saw another customer ordered it. Oh well~ Have to be for another day.
This concludes the post as we prepare our tummy and energy for Lae Lay Grill Restaurant.
