SUNGAI CONGKAK: Recreational Forest

Date of Travel: August 13, 2011

As mentioned in my earlier post on Subak, we celebrated my Dearest birthday dinner on Saturday, August 13, 2011. What was left out was the main event during the day. The location: Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest.

Sungai Congkak is a wonderful retreat to the outdoors. We had planned to have our own BBQ in the forest in the surroundings of nature. For those seeking a cooling afternoon or a lazy evening, this is the place to be.

The place has many zones for BBQ / gathering spots, they also have a few camp sites. Parking fee outside was RM3, Entrance Fee was RM1/person. How cheap is that~! And you get to enjoy nature to its fullest.

We chose a good time to visit this place as it was during the Ramadan month (Fasting month for Muslims). There was practically no one else there except a group of 3 photographers who came much later in the afternoon.

Chose a nice spot to set our things, and off I go trying to start fire on one of those disposable BBQ sets.

Despite the intense heat from the afternoon sun around 12pm, it all disappeared the moment we stepped into the forest. The trees were tall and thick enough to shade us from the heat, in fact so much so that we could feel the breeze of nature. Next was the river (Hence the word Sungai), the water was clear as it was cold. Definitely could enjoy soaking your feet in here the entire afternoon.

My Dearest was initially reluctant to enter the water and just wanted to cook the BBQ food for me. After much convincing, and finally placed her feet into the water, she too felt the coolness of the stream and got addicted.

Sadly my fire starting skill was not up to par, I could not lit up all the charcoals hence our cooking time took much longer than initially expected. By the time it was 3pm, we decided to call it a day as the skies were not looking too well. Right enough, it rained heavily once we packed up and entered our car. What luck of timing. I know me and my Dearest both enjoyed ourselves very much on this trip.

If you have a family, a group of friends, or just want to hang out romantically with your loved ones, this is one of the good places to be. Definitely one of my top recommendations for a relaxing place to chill~

Directions as follows:

- Head east on the Cheras - Kajang highway.
- Pay the Batu 9 Toll
- Take the 1st exit to your left onto Jln Taman Suntex
- Go straight until you see a Traffic light with a police station on your right
- Turn left towards Hulu Langat and follow the signs
- Drive all they way to the end and you will see the actual Sg. Congkak picnic and camping site. There will be other ‘chalets’ along the way, the path will look more and more suspicious as you go deeper, but just go for it and you will find the final destination.
